Gordon Murray Automotive has unveiled its second supercar, the T.33, with only 100 to be produced, each priced at £1.37 million ($1.83 million), with deliveries beginning in early 2024.
“With the T.33, our second all-new car, we gave ourselves a very clear brief, to create another timeless design,” Murray is quoted in the news release. “It has been designed and engineered to the same exacting standards as our T.50, with the same emphasis on driver focus, performance, lightweight and superlative, pure design, but the outcome is a very different motorcar.
“This is a car where comfort, effortless performance and day to day usability are even more front and center in its character.”
According to the announcement, the T.33 will be powered by a mid-mounted 3.9-liter V12 based on the Cosworth-developed engine in the $3.1 million T.50, but with its power “even more accessible” than in the “extreme” guise of its T.50 installation.
For the T.33, the GMA.2 V12 gets new camshafts, variable valve timing, ram-induction intake, new exhaust hardware, and engine management software. The engine will be linked to an Xtrac 6-speed transmission offered as a manual or with “Instantaneous Gearchange System” paddle-shift activation.
Mercedes unleashes most-powerful production model
With 843 horsepower and 1,032 pound-feet of torque, Mercedes-AMG says its new GT 63 S E Performance sedan (which the maker calls a 4-door coupe) is its most powerful production car to date. The car has a hybrid powertrain with a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 and electric motor.
Mercedes-AMG says the car, with 4Matic all-wheel drive, AMG ride control and AMG driving dynamics control, will hit 62 mph in 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 195 mph.
Aston Martin claims most-powerful luxury SUV
Speaking of most powerful, Aston Martin says its DBX707 is the world’s most powerful luxury SUV, thanks to its 707-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 that also provides 663 pound-feet of torque.
BMW shares updated 2023 8 Series
BMW has released details on several of its 2023 vehicles noting, for example, that the M8 Competition coupe, convertible and grand coupe will arrive with their 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engines producing 617 horsepower, that those cars will be available in five new colors, have new 12.3-inch control display screens, and will feature M Shadowline headlamps the automaker says will produce “a visually striking and dramatic look at the front of the vehicle.”
The 2023 8 Series also gets the 12.3-inch display screen and will be offered with a “Iconic Glow” feature for its twin-kidney grille and will come in a new 8 X Jeff Koons limited edition gran coupe as well as an Alpina B8 gran coupe version.
Meanwhile, the X2 sports activity coupe will offer a GoldPlay edition for 2023 in San Remo Green with Galvanic Gold details as well as content from the M Sport package, including suspension and steering and aero package.
BMW celebrates 50 years of M
BMW North America used the 60th Rolex 24 at Daytona race this past weekend to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the automaker’s high-performance M division. The group was founded by Bob Lutz, then the company’s global head of sales and marketing, and by Jochen Neerpasch, who was hired as BMW’s first motorsports director.
At Daytona, BMW not only continued in its role as sponsor of the 4-hour Michelin Pilot Challenge for GT4 race cars, but staged a heritage exhibition featuring a 1980 BMW M1, the first M-badged car, as well as a 1975 3.0 CSL, the 2015 Z4 GTLM, and the M8 GTE that won the Rolex 24 in 2019.
Ford and rural electrification
Ford has a long history with farming, from Henry Ford’s childhood to Ford tractors, to Greenfield Village, and now Ford Pro, the company’s arm that supports small businesses and their vehicle fleets, has launched a pilot program with three farms in California’s Sonoma County on sustainable fleet operations.
The program is being done with Sonoma County Winegrowers, which includes more than 1,800 grape farmers, and includes the use of electric-powered vehicles such as the F-150 Lightning and E-Transit cargo van as well as Ford Pro charging stations that complement the area’s use of solar power.
“The heart of the mission is to demonstrate how electric vehicles and web-based fleet management tools can have a positive impact on the agriculture industry in terms of increasing productivity, improving sustainability, and lowering the total cost of fleet ownership anywhere from 10 percent to 20 percent,” Ford said.
